Our activities include making grants to Seva Mandir, a much respected Indian voluntary organization working in South Rajasthan, India. Seva Mandir was founded in 1968 and is currently working in over 600 villages and reaching over 70,000 households. It works to strengthen individual and collective capabilities of people and their communities such that they are able to achieve their own well-being. Executive Board members of FSM:
Uday Singh Mehta (Chair of the Board) is a professor of political philosophy at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York. He has been interested in issues of democratic governance and development, especially in southern Rajasthan, for the past 25 years.
Sanjiv Khanna is the Co-founder and CEO of Iris Software, Inc. an IT consulting organization based in New Jersey. He is a Chartered Accountant by education and has spent the early years of his professional career with Tata Unisys Ltd (now a part of TCS). He has been a well wisher and supporter of the work done by Seva Mandir. FSM’s is operationally based out of Iris’s NJ headquarters.
Poonam Abbi is a trained social worker and has been associated with the development sector in India for about 15 years now. This period includes six years of work with Seva Mandir, a grass roots organization, working with rural and tribal village communities. Poonam serves as the Chief Executive of FSM. She is also a Co-Founder of Sustainable Threads, a Fair Trade wholesale company based in NJ.
