Priya Shankar had organized a dance event to support Short Stay Home (Sambal – a refuge center for women in distress) in Udaipur, India early this year. She raised USD 10,000 for this program.
Priya is an extra ordinary person. She loves working with children and women. She went to Seva Mandir in 2010 to volunteer. She worked on a variety of projects and got attached to the children and women in the Short Stay Home Program of Seva Mandir. She organized dance class there besides working on a full time projects in another department. When she came back to States, she wanted to stay connected to her favorite organizations. She also wanted to give back to the community she learnt a lot from during her stint. Being an accomplished Bharat Natyam Dancer and a desire to help, she put together a show with other bunch of dancers of different genre. She successfully raised enough money to support women of domestic violence and abuse in Rajasthan.
Bravo! A very big thank you to Priya. You inspire all of us to keep giving back to the community.
