Education and Seva Mandir
About Education Programs
In rural areas where a third of the children typically fail to receive any education at all, Seva Mandir supports programs that address the obstacles to school attendance: insufficient infrastructure, especially poor transportation; gender bias and the pressures of economic scarcity which often force children to migrate for work at an early age. Seva Mandir administers over 180 preschools in more than 150 villages, runs more than 170 primary education schools in 130 villages, as alternatives to distant, overcrowded government schools, and offers residential camp learning opportunities for over 550 children annually. In the early years of these programs, the demand for education was quite limited, but over the last decade many more people aspire to help their children access higher education and Seva Mandir is answering the call.
